RIYADH: Last week, 732 explosive devices were taken out of different parts of Yemen by members of Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam. According to a recent report, the total consisted of five explosive devices, 685 unexploded ordnances, 31 anti-tank mines, and 11 anti-personnel mines. Since the initiative’s launch in 2018, 480,526 mines have been cleared, according to Ousama Al-Gosaibi, managing director.
The bombs were indiscriminately planted and endangered women, children, and the elderly, among other victims. Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada were all the locations of the demining operations. The program equips local demining engineers with state-of-the-art equipment and trains them. Additionally, it provides assistance to Yemenis hurt by the gadgets. Teams are assigned to clear roads, schools, and villages so that people can move around safely and humanitarian aid can be delivered.
