Twelve are Hurt in an Explosion at an Oil Refinery in Turkey

ANKARA At least 12 workers were mildly hurt in Tuesday’s explosion at an oil refinery in northwest Turkiye, according to the business. The facility’s fire was promptly extinguished.
According to TUPRAS, the Turkish Petroleum Refineries firm, a fire started at its facilities in Izmit, Kocaeli province, when a compressor was being maintained. According to a statement, the company’s emergency staff responded to the event right away.

According to the company, the 12 workers were sent to a hospital for exams after suffering minor injuries. According to the business, other refinery operations were “continuing as normal,” and the unit where the incident happened “was deactivated in a controlled manner.” The blast happened during a drill, Kocaeli Mayor Tahir Buyukakin had earlier informed private NTV news. According to him, no backup was requested and the company’s own staff swiftly put out the fire.

Smoke was seen rising from the refinery, one of the biggest in Turkiye, according to video footage taken on the scene. Izmit is located roughly 62 miles (100 km) east of Istanbul. Trading of TUPRAS shares was temporarily suspended by the Borsa Istanbul stock exchange until the company offered a thorough explanation for the occurrence.
