During the 10th emergency extraordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Palestine, Saudi Arabia’s permanent envoy to the UN, Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s demand for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Two resolutions were the main focus of the session: one called for a ceasefire in Gaza and the other supported the mission of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Ambassador Al-Wasil denounced the selective application of international law and the misuse of veto power, linking these actions to the increase of Israeli crimes, the continuance of what he called a war of genocide, and the escalation of bloodshed in Gaza.
Along with applauding the ceasefire in Lebanon and decrying Israeli breaches of the deal, he also underlined the significance of UNRWA’s work and denounced Israeli initiatives against the organization, such as targeted legislation and attempts to subvert its mission.
In promoting peace based on the Arab Peace Initiative, the two-state solution, and international legitimacy resolutions, the ambassador emphasized Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people. Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair the high-level international conference on settling the Palestinian issue in June in New York, and he urged active participation.
