During a Key Ministerial Meeting, Saudi Arabia and Iraq Will Advance Their Digital Partnership

RIYADH: Following a high ministerial meeting, Saudi Arabia and Iraq’s digital partnerships are expected to flourish. While in Saudi Arabia, Hayam Al-Yasiri, the Iraqi counterpart of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, met with Abdullah Al-Swaha. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the talks centered on looking at potential new joint investment prospects in the field.

Ways to further promote entrepreneurship that fosters innovation and propels the expansion of the digital economy were also discussed during the meeting. This aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goal of being a worldwide leader in digital transformation and artificial intelligence. The objectives include digitizing 92% of government services, boosting the GDP share of the information and communication technology sector to 4%, and increasing the contribution of the digital economy to the GDP from 14% in 2022 to 19.2% by 2025.

Additionally, it supports Iraq’s continuous attempts to create a digital transformation plan that will boost the public and commercial sectors and stimulate economic expansion. The two sides also discussed the significance of coordinating initiatives to advance the digital environment, strengthen capacities, and increase cooperation in high-priority areas including infrastructure and artificial intelligence during the meeting.

While authorities gathered in Riyadh earlier this month for the 19th Internet Governance Forum, Saudi Arabia also looked into potential collaborations with France, Japan, and Germany in the areas of digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
