BYD and EVIQ Agree to Increase the Number of EV Charging Stations in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: As part of a new agreement to support the sector, high-speed EV charging stations will be erected at Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility facilities around Saudi Arabia. Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, which is partnered with the Chinese company BYD, and Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Co., a joint venture between Saudi Electricity Co. and the Public Investment Fund, inked a memorandum of understanding.

In an effort to establish the Kingdom as a leader in the EV sector, EVIQ intends to install over 5,000 charging stations in key areas by 2030. According to international estimates, by 2035, eco-friendly automobiles will make up half of all car sales, therefore the nation’s electrification initiatives will be crucial in determining how people move in the future. Mohammad Gazzaz, CEO of EVIQ, emphasised that the collaboration with BYD is a milestone in the direction of revolutionising the transportation sector in Saudi Arabia.

“We aim to deliver an unmatched EV charging experience for EV owners in the Kingdom by combining our expertise in fast-charging infrastructure with BYD’s expertise in electric mobility, contributing to the nation’s sustainability goals and Vision 2030 agenda,” he stated. Strategic partnerships like this one are essential to creating a more sustainable and greener future for the Kingdom, according to Badr Khojandi, general manager of BYD Saudi Arabia.
