Erdogan stated that instead of starting new wars, he expects Trump to fulfil his election campaign pledges to move towards peace. ANKARA: According to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, the Trump administration is making “wrong calculations” on the Middle East, and believing “Zionist lies” will only make matters worse. Trump’s proposal to expel the more than two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, assert US sovereignty over it, and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East” has been rejected by Turkiye. It has also called for international action against Israel’s leadership and declared that its attack on Gaza amounted to a genocide.
“Unfortunately, the United States is calculating our region incorrectly. According to a recording of his remarks to reporters on a flight back from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan, he stated, “One should not be engaged in an approach that disregards the region’s history, values, and accumulation.”
Erdogan stated that instead of starting new wars, he expects Trump to fulfil his pledges made during the election campaign to move towards peace. Despite a truce agreement between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, he said he saw no genuine signs of a ceasefire in Gaza and added that the Muslim world has yet to come to a consensus on the matter.
