DUBAI: Emirati authorities called the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates to increase cooperation in peaceful space operations a “significant milestone” in Arab space cooperation, according to a report released on Wednesday by the state news agency WAM. The UAE team, lead by Salem Butti Al-Qubaisi, director-general of the UAE Space Agency, inked the deal in Cairo at the 11th Arab Space Cooperation Group meeting and the “NewSpace Africa” conference.
“The United Arab Emirates’ strategic vision, which views space as a gateway to sustainable development, knowledge exchange, and creative solutions to shared challenges, is reflected in the MoU, which marks a significant milestone in Arab space cooperation,” Al-Qubaisi stated. He emphasised that the UAE’s commitment to investing in people, bringing scientific knowledge locally, and creating a competitive, innovation-driven knowledge economy was strengthened by its partnership with Egypt. These objectives, he claimed, were in line with more general regional aspirations for security and development.
The MoU creates a long-term framework for collaboration in civil space programs, encompassing the sharing of knowledge, technology, and research as well as the execution of cooperative initiatives that advance the sustainable development objectives of both nations. Communications technologies, satellite navigation and timing, Earth observation, remote sensing, space situational awareness, remote asset management, and research and development in cutting-edge and emerging technologies are among the planned areas of collaboration.
