Saudi Arabia Seeing Significant Changes’ in Women’s Advancement, Says Tokyo Governor

RIYADH: Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike stated on Friday that women’s progress in Saudi Arabia has seen “significant changes” compared to her earlier trips to the Kingdom. Regardless of gender, the Saudi Vision 2030 revolutionised the nation and made it comfortable for all, including men, women, children, and the disabled,” Koike stated at Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women International Summit in Riyadh.

The governor, who has made three prior trips to Riyadh, said she was grateful that women “can drive and travel alone now. Koike, who has already been appointed three times, is the first elected governor of Tokyo. She told the Fortune panel that making “women’s dreams come true” was her top concern.

She also mentioned how important it was to her to provide free childcare, which included school meals and tuition. Koike stated that the strategy for women’s growth should be the same everywhere, from tiny towns to huge metropolises, despite her emphasis on Tokyo. It’s a shared agenda that we must address, whether for industry, education, or reviving the economy,” she stated.

Following her victory, Koike started building a network for female governors and mayors. She added that women should “not wait” until they are elected or appointed to join, noting that when she and her colleague originally founded the network, there were only 39 elected female mayors and governors: “You won’t win if you don’t purchase a lottery ticket. Koike remarked, “The world is so turbulent,” and encouraged women to overcome the obstacles and accomplish their goals.
