There Were 6.5 Million Visitors to Saudi Historical Sites in 2024

The Ministry of Culture reports that in 2024, there were around 6.5 million visits to Saudi Arabia’s historical and cultural centres. The ministry said that this is an important evidence of the increasing interest of both locals and visitors in the Kingdom’s cultural attractions. Similarly, as part of continuous efforts to catalogue and conserve the country’s cultural and architectural legacy, over 25,000 architectural historic sites in different parts of Saudi Arabia have been recorded.

More than 1,100 new heritage sites were added to the National Register of Architectural Heritage in 2024, increasing the total number of registered sites to 3,646, according to the Heritage Commission, which is part of the Ministry of Culture. This was made possible by field teams continuing survey and documentation programs.

Using the most recent digital scanning and drone technology, the documentation process encompasses heritage structures and sites in a variety of locations, including Historic Jeddah, Najran, Asir, and Tabuk, as well as history villages and centres that were found and recorded for the first time.

According to the ministry study, historical and cultural places, including Diriyah, AlUla, and Historic Jeddah, were the most popular travel destinations. This was bolstered by the planning of cultural events, seasonal celebrations, and heritage exhibits, all of which raised visitor numbers.
