Mexico Calls Trump’s 30% Tariff Threat a Unfair Deal

Trump Plans to Impose 30% Tariffs on The EU and Mexico Starting on August 1

Mexican officials called US President Donald Trump’s recent threat of 30% tariffs on Saturday a “unfair deal,” in a statement. During discussions in the United States on Friday, Trump told Mexico about the extra penalties, which he claimed will take effect on August 1.

The ministries stated that Mexico is already negotiating a way to avoid tariffs by finding a substitute that would safeguard employment and companies on both sides of the border. With 80% of its exports going to the US, its biggest trade partner, Mexico is among the nations most at risk from the Republican leader’s tariffs.

Since his return to the White House in January, Trump has used tariffs as punishment against Mexico for failing to take the steps he claims are necessary to stop drug trafficking and illegal migration over the border. The Mexican foreign and economy ministries issued a joint statement, saying, “We discussed at the table that we did not agree and that it was an unfair deal.
