WASHINGTON: In light of recent Iranian attacks that have targeted Jordan and other US partners in the Middle East, Amman and Washington are looking to improve defense coordination. Jordan’s senior military commander attended high-level discussions at the Pentagon.
According to Jordan’s Petra news agency, Gen. Christopher J. Mahoney, vice chair of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Maj. Gen. Yousef Ahmed Al-Hunaiti, chairperson of Jordan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, talked about expanding military cooperation and coordinating their responses to changing security threats.
The main topics of discussion on Wednesday were improving combined military training, operational preparedness, defensive capabilities, and knowledge sharing between their armed services. To address common security challenges and strengthen coordination on shared interests, they also examined recent regional events and their consequences for security and stability. They emphasized the significance of bolstering defense cooperation. Al-Hunaiti’s formal visit to Washington, which aims to increase military cooperation and strategic coordination between the longstanding allies, included a number of meetings.
