Hybrid Car Imports From Jordan Increased 31% Year Over Year in H1

RIYADH: According to recent data, the number of hybrid cars imported into Jordan in the first half of 2025 increased by 31% year over year to 6,834 units. According to data released by the Jordan Free Zones Investors Commission, the Jordan News Agency, better known as Petra, reported that, despite the rise, the overall number of vehicles cleared from the Zarqa Free Zone for the local market decreased by 9% annually during the same time period.

The increase in imports of these cars is consistent with a larger regional trend. According to a December report by market research firm Claight, the Middle East and Africa’s hybrid vehicle market is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 17.7 percent between 2025 and 2034.

According to the recently published Petra statement, Jihad Abu Nasser, the commission’s spokesman for the automobile industry, blamed the decline on changes in consumer demand as well as the effects of recent tax and regulatory changes, especially those that affected electric vehicles. He pointed out that a number of car types, including diesel and electric ones, saw a decline.

In the first half of the year, gasoline automobile imports increased by just 3% year over year, but otherwise remained rather stable. The number of gasoline-powered vehicles cleared rose from 2,683 to 2,753, a 70-vehicle increase.
