Madinah Hydroponic Farm Achieves Record 2 Million Kg Production

After producing more than 2 million kg of product, a hydroponic farm in Madinah is emerging as a model for sustainable agricultural cultivation. The Saudi Press Agency said on Monday that the facility, which uses 20 air-conditioned agricultural halls totaling 183,000 square meters, mostly grows lettuce, celery, rosemary, wild thyme, and basil.

Compared to traditional agriculture, the farm offers numerous economic and environmental benefits, such as a 60 percent reduction in fertilizer consumption and a 90 percent reduction in water use. These attributes align with the country’s larger push to enhance environmental sustainability as well as the National Water Strategy 2030.

Modern agricultural technology are boosting food security and the National Agricultural Strategy while also increasing production efficiency and quality, according to Ayman Al-Sayed, director general of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture’s Madinah branch.

In order to increase the competitiveness of Saudi agricultural products on both domestic and foreign markets, he emphasized the continuous assistance provided to farmers through development plans and agricultural subsidy programs.
