The Growth of Riyadh Metro: 100 Million Passengers in 9 Months

Since its debut in December 2024, the Riyadh Metro has transported more than 100 million passengers, marking a significant milestone. The Saudi Press Agency said on Tuesday that the metro, which is run by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, has also maintained an on-time performance percentage of 99.7 percent.

With 46.5 million riders, the blue line, one of its routes, had the highest utilization. With 17 million, the red line came in second, while the orange line came in third with 12 million.

More than 29 percent of all riders went through the busiest stations, which included Qasr Al-Hokm, KAFDA, stc, and the National Museum.

The metro, which spans 176 km throughout the capital and was finished in four years, is the longest driverless network in the world. The system seeks to strengthen public transportation as a solution for the capital, increase mobility, and broaden options.

Aiming to revolutionize the transportation sector, the metro is in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. To connect important cities and increase trade, the railway network is set to be expanded by more than 50%.
