Saudi Minister of Communications Meets Intel CEO to Boost Semiconductor and AI Ties

Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Swaha met with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan its in Washington to explore strategic cooperation in semiconductors advanced computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The meeting reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued push to position itself as a global technology hub through innovation research and localized production within the semiconductor sector.

The discussion aimed to the advance the Kingdom’s goals under Vision 2030 focusing on localizing semiconductor value chains in strengthening digital competitiveness and accelerating national investments in AI and future technologies. The collaboration could also involve capacity building research partnerships and developing next-generation computing systems designed to support large-scale AI deployments.

Industry experts welcomed the initiative as a sign of Saudi Arabia’s transition from a technology consumer to an innovation-driven producer. Intel’s expanding partnerships across the Middle East including its engagement with Saudi Aramco Digital in the Open RAN Development Center further underline the Kingdom’s growing role in global semiconductor and advanced computing ecosystems. The move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader semiconductor development strategy led by the National Semiconductor Hub which aims to attract 50 design firms and train 5,000 engineers by 2030. As the nation diversifies its economy such global partnerships are set to boost innovation create high-value jobs.
