OIC Conference Calls for Stronger Global Cooperation in Water Management

JEDDAH — The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened the fifth session of the Ministers of Water Conference in Jeddah under the theme “From Vision to Impact,” emphasizing collective efforts to tackle water scarcity and promote sustainable resource management across member states.​

Chaired by Saudi Arabia, the three-day event brought together ministers, delegates, and experts to strengthen cooperation in water security and explore innovative solutions through technology and shared expertise. The discussions focused on expanding desalination capacity, improving groundwater management, and integrating renewable energy into water systems to ensure greater efficiency and resilience.​

OIC Assistant Secretary-General Aftab Ahmad Khokher highlighted that the conference seeks to transform policy goals from vision into tangible action, guided by the OIC Water Vision’s objectives. Saudi officials reaffirmed the Kingdom’s leadership in advancing global water initiatives, aligning the event’s outcomes with Vision 2030’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and international cooperation in addressing water challenges.

The conference also elected new members to the OIC Water Council for the 2025–2027 term and pledged more substantial investment in AI-powered water management technologies. Participants further called for urgent support to restore water infrastructure in conflict-affected regions such as Gaza, highlighting access to clean water as a humanitarian priority.
