RIYADH: Saudi Ambassador to the EU Haifa Al-Jedea called the European Parliament’s Tuesday endorsement of a roadmap to advance EU-Saudi relations into a full-fledged strategic partnership “an important milestone” in the development of bilateral ties.
In light of rising tensions in the Middle East, lawmakers overwhelmingly favored strengthening political, economic, and social cooperation with Saudi Arabia, recognizing the Kingdom’s expanding geopolitical role as a diplomatic actor who significantly contributed to regional and international stability.
It emphasizes Saudi Arabia’s leadership in reviving the two-state solution for the protracted Palestine-Israel conflict and inclusive peace processes throughout the region, especially in Syria, Sudan, and Lebanon, as well as its hosting of peace discussions and ceasefire negotiations.
The report described increased collaboration in a variety of areas, including human rights discourse, regional diplomacy, energy security, economic diversification, and cross-cultural interactions. It comes at a time when the Kingdom is expanding its global presence in regional diplomacy, infrastructure development, and green energy transitions, while undergoing extensive reforms under Vision 2030. Members of the European Parliament noted that Saudi Arabia’s reforms created new avenues for cooperation in areas of common interest, including regional stability, education, economic diversification, innovation, and climate action.
