Drug Smuggling Plot into Jordan Foiled by Syria’s Interior Ministry

LONDON: Syria’s Ministry of Interior reported on Tuesday the arrest of many drug traffickers and the seizure of a considerable quantity of narcotics destined for smuggling into Jordan. Anti-narcotics forces targeted a network involved in drug trafficking and cross-border smuggling in the southern portion of the country. They seized around 2.05 million Captagon tablets and 605 packages of hashish, totalling an estimated 151 kilograms, according to the ministry.

Authorities confiscated items used in smuggling operations, including helium gas cylinders, balloons, plastic mortar rounds, a launcher, a drone, and communication devices, according to the statement. In the southern part of Syria, anti-drug forces attacked a network engaged in cross-border smuggling and drug trafficking.

The anti-narcotics unit will continue operations to target drug trafficking and dismantle smuggling networks to preserve public safety and youth, they stated. Last week, authorities discovered a significant cargo of liquid cocaine at Lattakia on the Mediterranean Sea, destined for distribution in the region. The Ministry of Interior announced that the cocaine cargo originated from Brazil and that it was disguised within vegetable oil canisters.
