The Future of AI Chips in China Amid Global Tech Restrictions

Nvidia executive Jensen Huang anticipates China will eventually allow in high-end US chips that can train and run artificial intelligence systems. But he didn’t talk to high officials in Beijing about sales of the powerful H200 model, the billionaire said Bloomberg Television in an interview aired Monday.

Huang was in the country last week with US President Donald Trump, who visited Chinese President Xi Jinping. The countries are locked in a furious contest for AI supremacy and Washington has previously blocked the sale of the H200 chip to China over national security concerns.

But there are no signs of Chinese technology firms snapping them up as Beijing pushes up its development of indigenous chips to try to threaten US dominance of the critical sector. H200s are licensed for sale into China. But the Chinese government has to decide how much of their domestic market they want to protect,” Huang said. I think the market will open up gradually,” said Huang, CEO of the world’s most valuable business, Nvidia, which has been propelled by high demand for its AI gear.
