RAMALLAH: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged immediate international action to halt Israeli military aggression and settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in letters sent on Sunday to several leaders of friendly and Arab nations, the EU, the secretary-general of the League of Arab States, and the president of the UN Security Council.
In his letters, Abbas claimed that the ongoing attacks on Palestinians by Israeli forces and armed settler groups, which have resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths, property destruction, the burning of homes, religious sites, trees, and agricultural land, as well as attacks on Palestinian villages and communities with the protection and direct support of the Israeli military and government, were causing a dangerous escalation in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The president claimed that the situation has progressed beyond isolated violent incidents, characterizing it as a systematic Israeli policy intended to undermine and weaken the Palestinian National Authority and create new realities on the ground through settlement expansion and violence, thereby purposefully endangering the chances of a two-state solution and endangering regional security and stability.
