Travel experts speculate that Wizz Air’s return to Dubai and Abu Dhabi may indicate a decrease in airfares because the existence of an ultra-low-cost carrier may strengthen the price benchmark for other carriers. According to several travel brokers, economy fares on flights where Wizz Air directly competes may see a 10–20% decline. However, according to Bharat Aidasani, director of Pluto Travels, it is not anticipated that the entire UAE-EU market will decline by that much because other factors like fuel prices, seasonality, and demand will still have an impact on fares.
Price-conscious leisure passengers will likely be most affected, making full-service and other low-cost carriers more competitive, he told Khaleej Times. “On routes where Wizz Air directly competes, I would anticipate 10–20% approximate downward pressure on economy fares, especially during off-peak times.
After withdrawing from its joint venture with Abu Dhabi-based ADQ for over a year, the ultra-low-cost budget airline said on Tuesday that it will start operating in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It suspended its activities in Abu Dhabi due to “supply chain constraints, geopolitical instability, and limited market access.”
