JERUSALEM: On Tuesday, an Israeli minister defended French far-right lawmaker Jordan Bardella after an investigative website claimed that he had made antisemitic remarks in 2013. If Bardella, 31, is elected president of France in April of next year, she is expected to become prime minister. Bardella is the de facto number two to Marine Le Pen of the National Rally (RN).
The accusations, which were made public by the website Mediapart, have been denied. Israel’s minister for diaspora relations and fighting antisemitism, Amichai Chikli, wrote on X that Bardella “is one of the clearest voices in Europe against Hamas.
He said, “He visited the Nova site and the communities of the Gaza envelope,” alluding to the parts of southern Israel devastated by Hamas’ strike on October 7, 2023, which set off the Gaza conflict. He got to know survivors. He denounced antisemitism in a speech in Jerusalem. Additionally, the minister shared a picture of himself shaking Bardella’s hand at the scene of the Nova music festival massacre.
When Bardella was 17 or 18 years old in 2013, he said in a private chat that Zionists and Jews must “dominate other peoples, crush them, and rob them” and that Israel is determined to establish a “new world order,” according to Mediapart.
