WASHINGTON: On Friday, President Donald Trump requested that the United States Supreme Court reinstate his litigated against his 2016 Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton accused her of collaborating with former FBI Director James Comey and others to manipulate the election by associating his campaign with Russia.
After a federal judge dismissed the case and imposed sanctions of nearly $1 million on Trump and one of his attorneys for bringing a “frivolous” lawsuit, the Republican president filed an appeal. Subsequently, the sanctions and dismissal were upheld by a United States appeals court.
Trump filed a comprehensive complaint in federal court in Florida in 2022, while he was out of office following the 2020 election, against Clinton, Comey, former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, the Democratic National Committee, and numerous other entities.
Trump, who has a history of suing adversaries, claimed that Clinton and her allies conspired to discredit him in the lead-up to the 2016 election by spreading a “false narrative” that he and his campaign had colluded with Russia. Among other allegations, the long-running lawsuit alleged “racketeering” and a “conspiracy to commit injurious falsehood.
