US Becomes Formal Participant of Expo 2030 Riyadh in New Agreement

US Becomes Formal Participant of Expo 2030 Riyadh in New Agreement

ATLANTA: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday signed an agreement to build a framework for US involvement in Expo 2030 Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The deal was signed following talks between the two officials on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, where they reviewed the strategic ties between Saudi Arabia and the United States, discussed avenues for enhancing cooperation in priority sectors, and exchanged views on regional developments and efforts to tackle the challenges facing the Middle East. The agreement recognises the US as a “official participant” in Expo 2030 Riyadh and offers a formal framework for both sides to advance preparations for the global event, SPA said.

The agreement also highlights Expo 2030 Riyadh’s purpose of promoting international cooperation and building stronger relationships with participating countries ahead of the six-month exposition. Princess Reema bint Bandar, the Saudi ambassador to the US, was also at the meeting.

Saudi Arabia won the proposal to host Expo 2030 in November 2023 during the 173rd General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris. Riyadh won 119 of the 165 votes in the first round, ahead of proposals from Busan in South Korea and Rome in Italy.
