JEDDAH: From now until 2026, Saudi Arabia will lead the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization’s Executive Council.
At the 27th ALECSO session, which was presided over by Saudi Arabia and held in Jeddah on Friday, the official announcement was made. Iraq gave the Kingdom the presidency during the meeting.
Yousef Al-Benyan, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Saudi National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, welcomed the ministers and heads of national committees for education and science attending the session on behalf of Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan.
Within the context of Arab cooperation and solidarity, Al-Benyan emphasised the Kingdom’s humanitarian and fraternal support for the Gaza Strip.
He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s backing for Khalid Anan, the organization’s sole Egyptian and Arab candidate for director general.
In his closing remarks, Al-Benyan commended the Arab nations for their support of ALECSO and their efforts to foster communication in order to realise shared regional objectives.
Mohammed Al-Sudairi, the deputy minister of education for Saudi Arabia, reaffirmed that the ALECSO meetings’ location in Jeddah is associated with an expansion of the national institutions’ role in assisting the organisation in its endeavours.
