The UN health agency said on Friday that the “pause” that the Israeli military had imposed in Gaza to allow relief supplies has not affected the delivery of the much needed aid.
World Health Organization representative in the Palestinian territories Richard Peeperkorn stated, “So overall, we the UN can say that we did not see an impact on the humanitarian supplies coming in since that, I will say, unilateral announcement of this technical pause.” He stated, “That is the overall assessment.”
In eastern Rafah, the Israeli military declared over the weekend that there would be a daily humanitarian “pause” in fighting. However, a spokeswoman for the UN stated a few days later that “this has yet to translate into more aid reaching people in need.”
The World Health Organization issued a warning on Friday, stating that the intense heat in the Gaza Strip may worsen health issues for Palestinians who have been forced to flee their homes due to Israeli airstrikes and fierce fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas terrorists.
The World Food Programme has issued an urgent alert, citing Gaza’s severe food, water, and medical shortages as the cause of an impending public health emergency.
Richard Peeperkorn, WHO’s representative for Gaza and the West Bank, stated, “We’ve seen massive displacement over the last weeks and months, and we know that combination and the heat can cause a rise in diseases.”
