Saudi HR Ministry Takes a Tough Stance on Labour Infractions

As part of its ongoing efforts to regulate and control the labor market and make sure that establishment owners comply with labor regulations, teams from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development inspected more than 700,000 private-sector facilities in the Kingdom between the beginning of the year and mid-July 2024, according to a Saudi Press Agency report on Saturday.

The SPA claims that 88,776 warnings were given by the teams to establishments breaking the law, and that “107,329 establishments were found in noncompliance with several articles of the labor law.”

The list of infractions includes 7,662 instances of foreigners working in occupations or activities that were only open to Saudi nationals, 16,295 instances of employees not receiving salary, and 59,891 instances of businesses failing to boost wages as required by the ministry.

Teams from the ministry have visited 522,092 firms as part of their “intensified efforts to monitor compliance with the decision to localize jobs,” according to the SPA. “These visits helped achieve target localization rates in numerous sectors and produced 9,712 job opportunities for citizens.” The proportion of businesses adhering to localization regulations grew to 93.5%.
