Arab and Muslim Ministers Respond to the Escalating Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

DUBAI: On Friday, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt expressed deep concern about the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. According to a statement released on X by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, extreme weather and limitations on humanitarian access are the main causes of the suffering of civilians.

It said that exposure to frigid temperatures, broken tents, fallen buildings, and flooded camps had greatly raised the hazards to civilian life, especially for women, children, the elderly, and people with medical vulnerabilities.

The ministers cautioned that the lack of clean water, inadequate shelter, and malnutrition have increased the likelihood of disease breakouts, further taxing Gaza’s already precarious health system. The statement praised the work of international humanitarian groups and UN agencies, especially UNRWA, for continuing to give aid in the face of exceptionally difficult circumstances.

The ministers emphasized that humanitarian groups must be let to function in Gaza and the occupied West Bank in a consistent, predictable, and unhindered way, calling any interference with their operations intolerable.
