RIYADH: With an emphasis on the Arabian Saluki breed, the Riyadh Dog Festival is back for its second year with a variety of events and contests to attract a global audience of dog enthusiasts. According to the General Entertainment Authority, the festival, which is a part of Riyadh Season 2024, started on December 2 and is expected to run until December 7. Over 1,000 canines will participate in a variety of events.
Saluki races, agility dog races, working dog races, a dog beauty contest, and K9 displays are among the five primary types of competitions that will take place there. Cloud, a white miniature poodle brought by attendee Sara Abdulrahman, posed in his vibrantly colored paws and ears. She went to check what the festival has to offer, Abdulrahman told Arab News. “I want to see who will win the competition and what they have prepared for Saudi Arabia over the Riyadh season. I also came to stroll with Cloud and have a change of environment.
Abdulrahman discovered a pet salon in the Kingdom that uses natural colors to give animals’ coats a new look because she wanted her pet to look different. “I wanted my poodle to have a different appearance. Since they are all often brown or white, I wanted something fresh and fashionable. Among the many guests who brought their pets to the festival was Abdulrahman. With a dedicated museum, the event highlights the Saluki breed. One of the world’s oldest purebred dogs, the Saluki is thought to have come from the Middle East.
