Mataram The Observer from the Gulf: Eight cultural objects have been sent by the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Museum for the 2025 Islamic Arts Biennale, which will be held at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Tajul Muluk geomancy book, a traditional keris (Indonesian dagger), a cipo’ cila (veil worn by women from Sumbawa Island), and other traditional tools used by the NTB tribes of Sasak, Samawa, and Mbojo for the preparation and consumption of betel leaves are among the items that have been chosen, according to Ahmad Nuralam, Head of the NTB Museum, who confirmed this on Thursday.
To emphasize the area’s cultural legacy and tourism potential, these ethnographic artifacts from NTB will be on display, Nuralam said. Once the eight chosen objects have cleared customs, immigration, and administrative processes, they are expected to leave Indonesia on January 7 and arrive in Jeddah the following day. Along with the NTB Museum, the National Library and Yogyakarta’s Sonobudoyo Museum will also represent Indonesia in the show.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is sponsoring the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, which is organizing the Islamic Arts Biennale, which will take place from January 25 to May 25. Through exhibits of important objects from around the globe, the event’s theme, “The Art of Number,” highlights the range and depth of Islamic cultures and arts.
