JERUSALEM: On Wednesday, an international media association accused the Israeli military of spreading an artificial intelligence-generated image of a Lebanese journalist that it had killed a month ago. The soldier was wearing Hezbollah fatigues, according to the international media association.
An Israeli strike in Lebanon on March 28 resulted in the deaths of three Lebanese journalists, one of which was Ali Shoeib, a famous correspondent for the Al-Manar channel, which is connected with Hezbollah.
An image of Shoeib wearing a press vest was uploaded on X by the Israeli military. This image is partially overlaid with a manipulated version of the same picture, in which he is depicted wearing a Hezbollah uniform. The image was accompanied by the following caption: “Turns out the ‘press vest’ was just a cover for violence.”
A day later, military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani uploaded another grainy image to X, which purported to show Shoeib standing next to a tank while wearing fatigues. He wrote, We post this unedited photo this morning of the terrorist Ali Shoeib wearing Hezbollah uniform.”
Additionally, he admitted that the photograph that had been distributed the day before had been “edited.”
The Foreign Press Association, which represents hundreds of journalists working in Israel and the Palestinian territories, stated on March 28 that the military had disseminated a “fake” image in an effort to “discredit the journalist.
