MANAMA: At the start of the Arab League Summit in Manama, Bahrain’s King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, made a call for an international global conference for Middle East peace.
The king, who is also the summit’s host, reiterated his nation’s support for the UN membership of the Palestinian state and for its complete recognition. He emphasized that the creation of a Palestinian state would benefit the entire region.
The UN Security Council was urged to reevaluate the Palestinian request for full UN membership after the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly supported it last week.
After the US vetoed the Palestinian bid in the UN Security Council last month, the 193-member General Assembly held a vote to gauge support for the proposal, which would essentially recognize a Palestinian state.
The King of Bahrain declared, “What the Palestinians are facing requires a unified international stance.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman demanded the creation of an internationally recognized Palestinian state during his opening speech at the summit. The prince was one of the Arab delegates that came to the Arab League Summit in Manama on Thursday.
