Hezbollah announced on Friday that top Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya and Lebanon’s Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah met and talked about the most recent events in the Gaza Strip and efforts to achieve a ceasefire there.
Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, released a statement after Nasrallah met with Hamas deputy leader Hayya and discussed “the latest security and political developments” in the Gaza Strip.
The statement added, “They also discussed the atmosphere, the proposals put forth to end the treacherous aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and the latest developments in the ongoing negotiations these days.”
Nearly nine months into the Israel-Hamas conflict, Israel’s spy director was also anticipated in Qatar on Friday for the most recent attempt to release captives held by Palestinian terrorists affiliated with Hamas in Gaza.
The Israeli delegation, headed by Mossad chief David Barnea, was reportedly traveling to the Gulf emirate for the talks, which had the goal of “bringing the parties closer to a deal in Gaza,” according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
According to an AFP count based on Israeli numbers, 1,195 persons, largely civilians, lost their lives in Hamas’s strike on southern Israel on October 7. This attack sparked worries of a wider conflict involving Lebanon.
