Ibex Reserve is the First Protected Area on the Saudi Green List

RIYADH: The Ibex Reserve is the first protected area in the Kingdom to be included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Green List, marking a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia’s conservation efforts.

According to a Saudi Press Agency article on Wednesday, this recognition places it among just 77 protected areas globally that satisfy the union’s stringent requirements for efficient management and protection.

Only a handful of the world’s more than 300,000 protected sites have been recognised with a spot on the Green List, according to the National Centre for Wildlife, which manages the reserve. The Green List program benefits stakeholders by identifying exceptional locations for fair and efficient management in environmental protection.

This classification for the Ibex Reserve represents an international validation of its excellent management and dedication to protecting ecosystems and species, assessed by impartial experts. The reserve’s success in offering beneficial services to nearby communities and its support to sustainable development are highlighted by its inclusion on the Green List.

The reserve’s accomplishment of important standards, such as management, governance, design, and planning, as well as its awareness of social, economic, and environmental issues, are reflected in its listing.
