According to two Syrian army sources on Wednesday, Israel carried out an aerial landing on a former air defense post in the countryside of southwest Damascus during a series of strikes on the region, but then withdrew. Under former Syrian leader Bashar Assad, Iran had utilized the air defense facility.
In addition to being among the most important military outposts utilized by pro-Iranian militias under Assad, the Kiswa region and the strategically located Jabal Manea hilltop were the targets of the strikes. 24 hours earlier, Syrian state television reported that six Syrian soldiers had been killed by Israeli drone strikes in the countryside near Damascus.
According to a different military source, Syria thinks that equipment was left behind in the region, maybe by militias with Iranian support who were already established there. Since then, there has been a token presence of the new Syrian army. These were preliminary reports of multiple casualties, the insider stated. In the village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights, Israeli troops are stationed close to the border fence on April 30, 2025.
