The Saudi Press Agency said on Friday that Italy’s flag carrier, ITA Airways, launched its first nonstop route between Rome Fiumicino Airport and King Abdulaziz International Airport on August 1.
The Airbus A321neo service, which is being offered under the Kingdom’s Air Connectivity Program, or ACP, will operate three times a week.
Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, and Wizz Air, a low-cost carrier, are among the carriers offering services between the airports in Rome and Jeddah. In June, ITA Airways expanded its route network to include Riyadh.
According to the Italian airline earlier this year, Rome Fiumicino Airport has experienced a rise in travel to Saudi Arabia, quadrupling volumes since 2019. This trend has continued this year with an annual increase of 33 percent.
Mazen Johar, the chief executive of Jeddah Airports, and Majid Khan, the chief executive of the ACP, praised the route’s launch in a statement.
“We are thrilled that ITA Airways is starting a service between Rome and Jeddah, our ancient and seaside city, which will improve our air connectivity to Saudi Arabia even further.
