The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has implemented various services to guarantee an environment that is secure, cosy, and easily accessible for the elderly, allowing them to pray comfortably and easily. These services are part of the authority’s larger effort to give senior citizens who visit the Grand Mosque complete care and convenience.
One of the main projects is the establishment of electric shuttle services, which will take the aged from the Gaza Bridge to the Al-Salam Basement in the eastern area. This service makes it easier for senior attendees to move about the large mosque. Furthermore, the government has set aside big electric cars to help the elderly carry out the Saa’i, which is the custom of walking between Safa and Marwah.
Additionally, the Grand Mosque now contains prayer rooms especially made for the elderly and disabled. These rooms are on the first floor of the King Fahd extension, close to Gates 91 and 64. To further improve accessibility for senior worshippers, certain gates—like Gates 68 and 90—are also equipped with ramps and signage to handle electric vehicles.
To facilitate the flow of cars into the mosque, bridges and lifts have been installed, such as the Ajyad, Al-Shobaika, Al-Arqam, and Al-Marwah bridges, as well as the Al-Arqam lift and Al-Salam Basement. Together, these actions help to create a friendly atmosphere that allows senior pilgrims to fulfil their religious obligations without encountering needless obstacles.
