Rising Tensions in Southern Lebanon: What Recent Israeli Airstrikes Signal

BEIRUT: Israeli airstrikes on Friday targeted several locations north of the Litani River, one day after Israel hinted that it could start attacking Hezbollah again after asserting that the Iran-backed organization was “rebuilding its military system” and that the Lebanese army was “not moving fast enough.”

The towns of Mlikh and Aaramta in the Jezzine District, the heights of Jabal Al-Rihane, the area surrounding Qal’at Meiss between Ansar and Al-Zrariyah, and the Iqlim Al-Tuffah region were also affected by the raids. The road connecting neighboring villages was severed by strikes in the Tabna area, which is on the borders of Al-Baisariyah in the Sidon Zahrani district.

Hezbollah’s Radwan Force allegedly utilized a “training compound” to instruct its members “in order to plan and carry out terrorist plots against army forces and the citizens of the state of Israel,” according to Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee. The terrorists were receiving instruction in shooting and becoming qualified to utilize a variety of weaponry. Hezbollah’s “buildings and military facilities (used) for storing weapons” were attacked by the Israeli army, according to Adraee, who also predicted more assaults.
