JEDDAH On a two-day state visit to Saudi Arabia, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party landed in Jeddah Tuesday. Modi was greeted by Makkah Deputy Emir Prince Saud bin Mishaal, Commerce Minister Dr. Majed Al-Qasabi, the accompanying minister, and other high-ranking officials at King Abdulaziz International Airport. Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and the Crown Prince extended an invitation for the visit. Modi’s visit is the first time an Indian prime leader has been to Jeddah in almost four decades. During his previous trips to Saudi Arabia as India’s prime minister, Modi went to Riyadh in 2016 and 2019.

When Modi’s special flight entered Saudi Arabian airspace on Tuesday, Saudi F-15 fighters escorted his plane as a gesture. Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said on X: “Friendship soaring high! The Royal Saudi Air Force escorted PM Narendra Modi’s plane as it entered Saudi airspace as a unique gesture during his state visit.
