RIYADH: UN Tourism has named this iconic site in the Asir region of Saudi Arabia one of its top tourist villages for 2024. Because of its rich history, which includes medieval forts and castles, Abo Noghta and historic Tabab were selected. It was named under the theme of “Rural Communities Shaping the Future of Sustainable Travel,” along with 54 other rural villages throughout the world. The Abo Noghta community has demonstrated a dedication to environmentally responsible renovation methods by recycling old materials, creating a magnificent model for sustainable restoration throughout Asir, according to a statement from UN Tourism.
It also stated that this creative strategy has opened up new avenues for the community to thrive. According to UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, tourism can promote sustainable development while assisting rural people in preserving and appreciating their rich cultural legacy. These communities can boost local customs, stimulate economic growth, and improve the standard of living for their citizens by utilizing their special resources. We honor the villages who have welcomed tourism as a means of achieving self-determination and communal prosperity,” he stated.
With thousands of years of agricultural heritage, Abo Noghta grows a wide variety of products, including fruit, vegetables, corn, and wheat. The village is a hub for conventional and sustainable farming methods since it is also very good at raising cattle.
