MANILA: In an effort to improve bilateral ties and support the government’s labor migration initiatives, the Philippines has praised the UAE’s decision to grant pardon to 220 Filipinos. As part of last month’s National Day celebrations, the Philippine nationals who had served prison sentences for a variety of transgressions were pardoned. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. formally declared the decision Monday night, calling it “proof of the strong ties between our two countries.”
In order to guarantee the prompt repatriation of the freed, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai were working with UAE authorities. “We sincerely appreciate the UAE’s government and citizens’ ongoing kindness and understanding toward Filipinos. In a joint statement on Tuesday, they said, “The pardon granted reaffirms the strong and growing relationship between our two nations, built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared values.”
In order to help Filipino citizens who are having legal problems, the Philippine government frequently offers legal advice, engages in negotiations with local authorities, and, when practical, secures repatriations or clemency. In honor of Eid Al-Adha, 220 people were recently pardoned, joining 143 others who were pardoned in the United Arab Emirates.
