Rebuilding Lives: The Impact of Saudi Arabia’s Amputee Support Mission

MAKKAH: The Baitureh Health Association for the Care of Amputees has rapidly emerged as one of Saudi Arabia’s most significant humanitarian endeavors, revolutionizing assistance for those who have lost limbs.

The group, which was founded in 2020, addresses people’s social, psychological, and physical needs and closes a long-standing void in the country’s healthcare system. CEO Badr bin Alyan told Arab News that the program was started in response to an increasing demand brought on by amputations caused by blood illnesses, accidents, work-related injuries, and other factors.

According to him, its operations were “based on service integration rather than fragmentation, enabling beneficiaries to return to their lives with confidence, ability, and independence.” Initial assessments, physical and psychological rehabilitation, family support, prosthetic fitting, and continuing maintenance are all included in this comprehensive process.

Its psychological support programs include field visits to assist patients both before and after amputation, as well as group sessions facilitated by licensed mentors who have experienced similar things. Approximately 10% of the more than 1,000 individuals who have benefited from the association’s efforts throughout the Kingdom are children, who Alyan described as “the most sensitive and the most in need of intensive psychological and family support.
