Saudi Arabia and Japan Agreed to Collaborate on Peace in the Region

TOKYO: Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have agreed to help build regional stability, including secure sailing in the Strait of Hormuz, amid the US and Israel’s attack on Iran.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the two officials chatted by phone for 30 minutes on Thursday. Takaichi outlined Japan’s position on the Middle East conflict and emphasized the need for Iran and the US to reach a permanent agreement.

Takaichi stated that preserving the existing ceasefire and defusing tensions was critical. She also hoped for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as feasible. She reaffirmed Japan’s strong support for ongoing US-Iran discussions, supported diplomatic efforts by mediation nations, and restated Japan’s commitment to cooperating with Saudi Arabia and the international community to reach a diplomatic settlement.

The Japanese prime minister expressed profound condolences for Saudi Arabia’s human and material losses as a result of the Iranian assault. She also thanked Saudi Arabia for providing important crude oil supplies to Japan and urged continuous cooperation to strengthen energy security. Takaichi commended Saudi Arabia for assisting Japanese nationals in safety leaving neighboring nations through Riyadh.
