RIYADH: The food and beverage industry led the 11.9 percent increase in Saudi Arabia’s point-of-sale transactions in the final week of September, which totalled SR13.3 billion ($3.4 billion).
According to the most recent data from the Saudi Central Bank, or SAMA, spending in this sector increased by the largest amount, 28 percent, during the week of September 22–28, with SR2.14 billion in total transactions.
Following this, spending on leisure and culture increased by 24.6 percent to SR308.2 million. With a positive change of 21%, the telecoms division saw the third-largest increase, reaching SR116.3 million.
During the seven days, Saudis spent SR741.9 million on transportation, a 2.6 percent decline, and SR238.9 million on hotels, an 18.3 percent decrease from the previous week. This week, the majority of industries saw increase, except those three.
With a POS share of SR1.98 billion, restaurants and cafes came in second, followed by miscellaneous goods and services at SR1.62 billion, and the food and beverage sector with the greatest share. The top three categories accounted for almost 43%, or SR5.7 billion, of the total amount spent this week.
