The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Hails "Fundamental Achievements" on the Vision 2030 Path

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia gave an update on the Vision 2030 plan, highlighting the Kingdom’s achievements in employment and tourism.

Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its economy are going well, according to the crown prince, who made this announcement during the annual royal address that opened the ninth session of the Shoura Council. By 2023, non-oil sectors will account for half of the Kingdom’s real gross domestic product.

As the country works to lessen its reliance on oil earnings, Saudi Arabia must support this industry. The crown prince lauded the Kingdom for its “many fundamental achievements during this great journey,” according to the Saudi Press Agency.

“In the field of tourism, achievements preceded the target date, as the national tourism strategy, which was launched in 2019, set a target of 100 million tourists in 2030, and this target was exceeded and reached 109 million tourists in 2023,” the speaker said, reflecting on the advancement of Vision 2030, which was announced in 2016.

After meeting this goal, the Kingdom’s tourism aspiration has now changed to draw 150 million tourists by 2030.

The crown prince emphasized that the rate of unemployment among Saudi nationals, both male and female, fell to 7.6 percent in the first quarter of 2024—the lowest level in history—from 12.8 percent in 2017.
