RIYADH: The King Salman Science Oasis is hosting the STEAM Festival, which honours Saudi Arabian women and the groundbreaking work of scientist Mariam Al-Astrolabi.
The “Fun Chemistry” festival, which runs until September 30th, aims to encourage girls to pursue jobs in STEAM fields, increase awareness of the importance of women in science, and foster a sense of pride in the nation’s heritage.
Al-Astrolabi became one of the most important women in Islamic history by substantially contributing to science, especially astronomy. She is a well-known Muslim scientist who made significant contributions to the development of astrolabes, devices that were once used to locate locations by tracking the movements of stars.
Al-Astrolabi was a gifted astronomer and engineer who flourished during the Hamdanid dynasty at the end of the 10th century A.D. In addition to helping Muslims calculate the times and direction of their prayers, the astrolabe was utilised in nautical navigation to discover new routes. Astrolabes are emblems for STEAM education—science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The gadget was precisely designed and manufactured by skilled engineers.
