To Commemorate the End of WWII, King Charles Conducts the UK Service

LONDON: To commemorate 80 years since the conclusion of World War II, King Charles III joined veterans and other royal family members in Westminster Abbey on Thursday. Charles and his oldest son, Prince William, arrived at the monastery and placed wreaths at the unknown warrior’s church grave.

Charles R. King signed the wreath with the simple words, “We will never forget. In his greeting, signed “William” and “Catherine,” William also included the following: “For those who gave their lives in the Second World War.” We’ll keep them in mind. Since fewer and fewer soldiers are alive, this year’s remembrances have been particularly poignant.

During the event, which began with a two-minute national silence, 10-year-old great-great-grandson Alexander lighted a candle of peace in honour of Winston Churchill, the prime minister during the war. The younger Churchill remarked, “It feels really amazing that I can represent my family and also the younger generation to know and remember everyone involved in World War II.”

Veterans received white flowers from other younger congregation members. Queen Camilla, William’s wife, Princess Catherine, sometimes called Kate, and other senior royal family members were also with Charles, who is receiving treatment for an unidentified disease. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was present, along with other dignitaries and lawmakers.
