Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Dream: An Unfinished Obsession

Saudi Arabia and Arab Nations Support Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

WASHINGTON —Donald Trump has openly expressed his strong desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, yet the prestigious award has eluded him throughout his two terms as U.S. president. As the Norwegian Nobel Committee prepares to announce the 2025 laureate on Friday, Trump’s pursuit of the prize is driven by his craving for recognition and a longstanding rivalry with former president Barack Obama.

At times, Trump has seemed to accept that he is an unlikely candidate. In September, speaking to senior U.S. military officials, he remarked, Will you get the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not. They’ll give it to some guy that didn’t do a damn thing. Yet he added, “It’d be a big insult to our country, I will tell you that. I don’t want it, I want the country to get it. It should get it because there’s never been anything like it.”

As the announcement approaches, Trump’s efforts to promote himself as a peacebuilder have intensified. He has claimed credit for helping end seven conflicts, including disputes between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.

While Trump highlighted a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May, many of his claims are either partial or misleading. Notably, he even authorized military strikes on Iran’s nuclear program in June.
