JERUSALEM: An AI-generated video of Ran Gvili, the final hostage whose body is still being held in Palestinian territory, was made public on Tuesday by an Israeli organization that represents the families of Gaza hostages. The one-minute artificial intelligence-generated video alleges to show Gvili sitting in a tunnel in Gaza and pleading with US President Donald Trump to assist in returning his body to Israel.
Mr. President, I’m pleading with you to finish this: Please take me home. This is what my family deserves. The AI-generated portrait of Gvili declares, “I deserve the right to be buried with honor in the land I fought for. To combat the Hamas militants, he made the decision to leave his house and brought his rifle. Before being transported to Gaza, he was shot during the battle at the Alumim kibbutz.
In January 2024, Israeli authorities informed Gvili’s parents that he had not recovered from his injuries. The main organization representing those kidnapped to Gaza, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, released the AI tape. According to the Forum, Gvili’s family gave their consent for it to be released.
