Why POS Spending in Saudi Arabia Reached $4.3 Billion in Early March

RIYADH: The overall number of point-of-sale transactions in Saudi Arabia during the week that ended on March 7 increased by 11 percent, reaching SR16.1 billion ($4.3 billion). The majority of industries experienced positive weekly growth. The most recent information from the Saudi Central Bank indicates that the total number of transactions reached 226.2 million, representing a 7.4 percent increase.

Spending on education experienced the greatest increase, increasing by 39.4 percent to SR130.7 million. Jewelry spending, on the other hand, grew by 35.8 percent to SR693.11 million with the second-highest increase.

Spending on clothing and apparel increased by 31.7 percent to SR2.5 billion, while spending on pastries increased by 18 percent. Both of these categories of expenditures saw increases. The amount of money spent by hotels decreased by 11 percent, reaching SR334.83 million.

It was found that spending on medical goods in pharmacies increased by 2.6 percent, reaching SR261.06 million. On the other hand, the amount spent on medical services increased by 9 percent, reaching SR579.33 million.

A 7.5 percent increase in expenditures on food and beverages brought the total to SR2.5 billion, while a 14.7 percent increase brought the total to SR1.4 billion for spending on restaurants and cafés.
